ORE Catapult- Game-Changer BladeBUG
The Project
ORE Catapult commissioned us to follow the story of BladeBUG for their ‘Game-Changer’ series. They are a microbusiness based in London, who’s mission is to design and create a blade-crawler robot that can inspect blade surfaces at offshore wind farms.
We have followed their journey from their initial tests at ORE Catapult’s facilities in Blyth, to their first actual blade walk on a turbine in Levenmouth. This project however, focusses on the concept of BladeBUG and their collaborators. It highlights what they can offer to the industry overall.
The Process
We were invited to one of BladeBUG’s testing days in Blyth. This meant we captured the team testing on a repurposed turbine blade. This was a new, promising step for them at the time. Additionally, this provided an opportunity to film an interview with their founder Chris Cieslak. He gave an insight into what the project is, how they started, and where they go next.
We combined the footage with branded graphics and some savvy editing to create a social media package. This includes a 5 minute video, as well as multiple social media versions around 30 seconds in length. These videos are also formatted to the desired platforms preferences.
Doing this helps the client to reach a far wider audience. The specific versions are designed to target different platforms. See what Amy Needham, ORE Catapult’s Campaigns Manager had to say about the project below, as well as one of the social media videos!

“The BladeBUG Game-Changer video is our most highly viewed film at more than 13,000 views, which is far more than our average video. The news cuts you did for us helped us reach a high audience in the international media, going viral on social media in several countries.”
